Lockdown - How crafting was, and is, so important to me

I was busy looking through my social media today and saw several posts pop up from friends who had shared their “memories” from this time last year. How the world was about to change as we entered lockdown. If only we knew then what a year we were going to have!  Working from home for me and so many others became the new normal and finding a way to adjust to this was so important. I remember my mental health really taking a hit and I knew that I was struggling like so many others. I had to take charge. There was lots of advice around especially when it became clear that it was not going to be over in a couple of weeks. For me I found that I needed to make sure that I was in a routine, after all when at work under normal circumstances every minute of my day was planned out so I needed to make sure that every day was planned out too, not just the ones when I was working from home. Groups sprang up that were trying to help and support and I got involved with making ear savers for the NHS

Crochet pencil cases

This week I have been working on a completely new idea. As much as I love working on my cacti and bringing different characters to “life” I enjoy setting myself new challenges. I knew I wanted it to just use double crochet stitches but to have a bit of interest as well.  The first thing I thought I would try and work out was whether to do the lining or to do the crochet piece first. Both ways I thought could work and would have advantages but would give there own set of challenges as well. I decided that I would go with doing the lining first and then attached the crochet on with possible crocheting directly from the zip. Lining fabric picked along with a zip it was time to get the sewing machine out which I must admit felt a little strange having not used it for a few months. It did feel a little strange not adding an outer layer of fabric as I would normally have done in the past and

With a new month beginning this has been a week of new ideas and developing old ones. Last year I decided that I was going to take part in #marchmeetthemaker over on Instagram. It all started off well and then due to a change in everyone’s circumstances it got put on the back burner and I didn’t get very far. This year I thought I would have a go again and my challenge is to see if I can complete it. If you have never seen it, it is a great way of finding out more about the person and to have a glimpse into their world. Already I have found so many inspiring people to follow and am pleased that I have managed to complete the first week. Each day there is a prompt that sets the theme for the post for that day. Tomorrow’s one is work in progress and I already have an idea of what I will be posting and speaking about so watch my space over on Instagram to find out more.  I also this week had an idea to develop my cacti. The majority of them I add eyes to and some even have a mouth depend
