Cute Christmas Cactus

At Christmas time I always notice in the shops an abundance of Christmas cactus. I have been known to on occasion purchase one as although I really like plants I am not very good at keeping them alive despite my best efforts. Cacti therefore are perfect for me. However, despite the fact that they require little care, compared to other plants I am still able to kill them off which takes some doing I am told!

I have been experimenting with different cacti patterns recently and have come up with various shapes and sizes. I like making them because not only do they look cute but I can’t kill them off. They are also great at using up lots of scraps of yarn especially when making the little flowers that adorn them. I found a small ball of what I would describe as a traditional Christmas green and thought I would make one of the small tube style cacti and adorn it with a red flower. These colours go so well together especially when it is topped off with a terracotta pot that has been painted in metallic gold shades and crochet “soil”. The finishing touch is to give them a cute face with plain black safety eyes and a little mouth.

I love these little cute Christmas cacti as they each seem to take on their own character. They can be placed wherever you want them to be. On a desk at work, on a mantle piece or on a shelf to compliment other Christmas decorations. And the great thing is that there is no watering!
