New year. New thoughts
It is that time of year again when we make resolutions and reflect on the year that has just passed. And boy what a year 2020 was! I don’t think anyone could have predicted what the following twelve months would bring when sitting down on the first day and looking forward to new adventures.
I have heard a lot recently about looking forward as that is where you are going and not to look back as you are not going that way. I however think it is important to reflect as otherwise how can you learn from what has gone on. We may not like the journey that we have found ourselves on but through reflection we can use it to help shape the path we are now on. Of course there are things that we cannot plan for and it is in these moments we find ourselves having to dig deep. We all need to think about what is important to us. That for me has been one of my big takeaways from last year. To decide what is important to me. Time spent with friends and family are top of my list. Checking in to see how they are and really listening to the response. We may all be in the same storm but we are not in the same boat and to understand that is vital. That we are all trying to find our own way through.
Storms however do pass and often with a beautiful rainbow. I was given a beautiful book for my birthday which fell in the first lockdown and it is one I often find myself dipping into. The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse by Charlie Mackesy. It is beautifully written and illustrated and definitely worth checking out.
Crocheting , and crafting in general, has always been good for my mental health. I find the process of making something even if it is just for me so therapeutic. I know that others find this too. I love making my different cacti and enjoy experimenting with different colour ways, bunting and types of pots and vessels that they sit in. I came across a gorgeous yarn from King Cole called beaches. This particular cactus is made using beaches and cream. I really like how the colour changes through a range of pastel colours and how it stripes. It reminds me of the walks along the beach that I had in the summer mixed with the rainbows that I saw in peoples windows. The bunting spelling out the word love is something I feel is important. That we all need to show love to each other. That none of us know what anyone else is going through. The dark clouds will move on and once again we will see the blue sky.
